MOTLEY -- William "Bill" Pribbenow, 85, Motley, Minn., died Sunday, May 8, 2005, at the Hilltop Care Center in Watkins. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Randall with the Rev. David Milz officiating. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley. Military honors will be provided by the Randall VFW Post No. 9073. Friends may call at the church an hour prior to services.
Bill was born Feb. 16, 1920, in Staples, son of the late Otto and Wilhelmina (Bristlin) Pribbenow. He was united in marriage to Frances Mary Monty on June 9, 1947. Bill served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne as a light machine gunner from 1942 until 1945 when he was honorably discharged with a certificate of disability with the following decorations and citations: AM Theater of Services ribbon, Good Conduct ribbon, Purple Heart, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon with one Bronze Star. Bill participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944, and was critically wounded on June 10, 1944. After his discharge, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Motley. His family moved to Mound where he worked for the Tonka Corp., until his retirement and then returned to Motley. They recently moved to Watkins to be near his family.
Bill was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Watkins, former member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Randall, life member of the VFW in Randall, DAV, 101st Airborne and Randall Senior Citizens. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and reading.
Bill Pribbenow is survived by his wife, Frances; a son, William (Vicki) Pribbenow, of Ellabelle, Ga.; a daughter, Mary (John) Dietman, of Watkins; a grandson, Christopher Pribbenow; a great-granddaughter, Macala; three sisters, Sophia Schwitalla, Little Falls, Minn.; Florence (Bill) Berndt, of Motley, Lydia (Clifford) Goodwater, of Motley; and two brothers, David Pribbenow, of Fayetteville, N.C., Willis Pribbenow, of Gulfport, Miss. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mabel Thorn and Dorothy Beeson; and two brothers, John and Arthur Pribbenow.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Randall Funeral Chapel in Randall.
