Sen. Paul Koering, R-Fort Ripley, voted Monday in support of the Positive Alternative Act, a measure that passed the Senate on a 57-10 vote.
The legislation would make $2.4 million in state funds available in 2007 as grants to community organizations that help women who are pregnant carry their children to term. Participating grant recipients must ensure that none of the funds will be used to encourage, refer or counsel the woman to have an abortion.
The bill is awaiting action in the House.
