Stolen vehicle leads to felony traffic stop

Posted: Wednesday, May 11, 2005

BAXTER -- Baxter police officers, with assistance from area law enforcement agencies, recovered a stolen vehicle about 11 a.m. Monday after conducting a felony traffic stop at McDonald's in west Brainerd.

Several officers, with guns drawn, stopped the vehicle, following standard procedure for a felony stop, said Baxter Police Chief Jim Exsted.

A 39-year-old Motley woman was detained in the traffic stop but released because she apparently didn't realize the vehicle was stolen, Exsted said.

Though police computers indicated the vehicle was stolen, Exsted said his department is investigating. The vehicle is being held pending further investigation.
