Colonel James Gardner, lifelong Brainerd resident, local athletic star and a military officer for nearly four decades concluded his military career this month, retiring from his latest position as the Minnesota Army National Guard's Deputy Director of Maintenance.

Tenth straight dual meet triumph for Coach Bud Schmid's Brainerd High School tennis team, a 5-0 verdict at Hibbing has primed the Warriors for a clash with the Minneapolis leader, Edison, ranked No. 4 in the State, here Friday.
