ROYALTON -- The Royalton Fire Department, with mutual aid from Little Falls and St. Cloud Fire Departments, responded to a train fire about 4 a.m. this morning midway between Little Falls and Royalton along Highway 10.
Fire officials said the fire involved flatbed cars hauling semi-trailers. The semi-trailers were believed to be hauling possible hazardous materials. Fire officials said they were concerned about the release of sulfuric acid.
The State Patrol reported the highway was closed at 4:22 a.m. because of the fire involving rail cars near the end of a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train.
The northbound lanes reopened at 6:33 a.m. and the southbound lanes reopened at 7 a.m.
The St. Cloud Fire Department provided its chemical assessment team to assist the Royalton Fire Department.
