Twenty-nine Morrison County residents recently participated in a nutrition slogan contest.
The slogan for National Nutrition Month this year was "Food and Fitness: Health for a Lifetime." Suzanne Driessen, Extension educator with the University of Minnesota Extension Service in Morrison County, sponsored a contest to come up with a better slogan.
Eight winners were selected by Extension Committee members serving in an appointed capacity to represent Morrison County's five districts.
Winning slogans will be used throughout the year in nutrition messages focusing on the food guide pyramid.
Winning slogans include:
Fats/oils/sweets -- "Junk the Junk Food" by Ginny Tembruell, Freedhem.
Dairy -- "Drink Milk for a Good Mood" by Edna Golombiecki, Little Falls.
Grains (tied) -- "All Aboard the Grain Train" by Kim Mrosla, Royalton; and "For twice the brains under your hat, eat more grains and much less fat" by Richard Berg, Little Falls.
Fruit/vegetables -- "Junk food value sometimes nil, fruit and veggies nutritious and tastier than a vitamin pill" by Adeline Strandberg, Swanville.
