Thank God for mothers.
This weekend is the state fishing opener. But it's also Mother's Day.
I have been blessed with an awesome mother, wife and mother-in-law. Guys, how could we do it without these woman in our lives? I certainly couldn't - and wouldn't - want to do it all on my own. They take care of a lot and deserve to be honored.
I know I haven't been the best at telling or showing how much I appreciate the woman in my life. Whenever you need them, they are always there, and willing to do what they can.
I look at all the stuff my mom did for us and what my wife does for our kids, little things that you probably don't think twice about - making sure we have clean clothes to wear, that the beddings is washed, dinners are made, floors are cleaned, the refrigerator is stocked and homework done. I could go on for a long time, and I'm sure you could think of a lot more to add to the list.
I am taking my wife fishing on the opener this year. She was bummed she couldn't go last year with me, but I had some very important people in my boat (serving as guide for the governor during the Governor's Fishing Opener on Pelican Lake) and I couldn't have her outfish them.
I'm planning on opening on Gull this year. Should be a good opener with the water temperature warming. My wife likes to jig and I'll probably Lindy.
I wish all of you mother's a happy Mother's Day, and here's to an awesome 2009 open-water season.
