Camp Journey is a children's grieving camp created in 2004 by several community members who recognized the need for a place where children age 4-18 could connect with other children who have experienced the loss of a close family member. The first three-day camp was in 2005.
Camp Journey has hosted about 24 children a year. This year's event is May 16-18 at the Confidence Learning Center.
Camp Journey uses skilled Confidence Learning Center staff members who specialize in outdoor education in partnership with area professionals including child psychologists and counselors.
The Brainerd Noon Rotary Club is the fiscal agent of Camp Journey and provides all of the volunteer assistance in promotion of the program. The Camp Journey coordinator is Russ Gilson. Volunteers who may have a few hours to prepare a meal may reach Gilson at 855-1721 or 851-3849.
Camp Journey seeks a $25 entry fee from the family of the child, however if this is a hardship the fee is waived. Funds are required and used to cover the costs of food, supplies and travel of children's families if necessary.
