Together with the Brainerd Community Service Committee, students from Riverside Elementary School in Brainerd collected items for care packages to be sent to local troops serving in Iraq. Packages will be sent to soldiers registered with the Brainerd Family Readiness Group, through the National Guard Armory of Brainerd. At last count, there were 45 servicemen and women registered. Students also wrote letters to the soldiers, which will be included with each of the care packages. Brainerd Mayor James Wallin visited Riverside last week to help students sort through the items.
