PINE RIVER -- Chris Bramer pitched a complete game, allowing only five hits and no earned runs with six strikeouts, to lead the Verndale Pirates past the Pine River-Backus Tigers 5-2 in Park Region Conference play on Tuesday.
Bramer went 2-4 with an RBI and run scored and Steve Schmitz went 1-4 with a double and two RBI for the Pirates.
Skyler Botz went 2-3 with two stolen bases and a run scored for the Tigers.

HINCKLEY -- The Aitkin Gobblers fell to the Hinckley-Finlayson Jaguars 11-10 in Great River Conference baseball Tuesday.
The Jaguars rallied from a 10-9 deficit with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
"Dan Sandberg pitched well enough to win," said Aitkin coach Brian Sandberg. Seven errors by the Gobblers contributed to their downfall.
Offensively, the Gobblers' Adam Holder went 3-4 including a grand slam. Jacob Mehr and Dusty Finlayson both added two hits for Aitkin.

PARK RAPIDS -- The Staples-Motley Cardinals swept the Park Rapids Panthers in Mid-State baseball action Tuesday by scores of 11-2 and 12-1.
In game one, the Cardinals got a strong performance from senior pitcher Dave Anderson, who went the distance, giving up seven hits and two runs with 10 strikeouts. He also collected two hits and two RBI at the plate. Justin Kolling nailed three hits and drove in three runs for the Cardinals.
In the second game, Cardinal pitchers Chris Jennissen and Cole Brenny combined to hold the Panthers to one run on three hits. Hector Baez was 2-2 with three RBI, including a home run, and Motl and Charlie Gaugert each added two hits for Staples-Motley.

Huskies pitcher Lee Roberts struck out 11, walked two and gave up six hits.
Travis Buckingham went 3-4 and scored two runs and Aaron Anderson was 1-2 with an RBI for Pillager.

PIERZ -- Luke Solinger hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning that tied the game and teammate Dan Saehr delivered a base hit, scoring Joe Funk with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth, to give the Pierz Pioneers baseball team a 9-8 comeback win over the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars Tuesday.
Pierz trailed 8-5 in the seventh but scored three times in its half of the inning to tie the score, with the big blow Solinger's home run. Jeff Riley relieved Pioneers starter John Kahl in the ninth and held B-B-E scoreless. Riley picked up the win when Funk trotted home on Saehr's hit.
Saehr went 3-5 with two doubles, a stolen base and a run scored and Solinger went 3-4 with a run scored and three RBI for Pierz .

WADENA -- Tyler Currie hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines an 8-7 win over the Perham Yellowjackets in the opening game of a baseball doubleheader on Tuesday.
Tony Vittetoe was 3-4 at the plate while Matt Schiller and Joe Simon both went 2-3 for the Wolverines.
In game two, Perham shut out the Wolverines 10-0 behind the three-hit pitching of Shane Hendrickson, who also hit a home run.
Tyler Currie, the winning pitcher in game one for the Wolverines, had two of the Wolverines' three hits in game two.
