CROSSLAKE -- Glenn Earl Bennett, 80, Crosslake, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd.
He was born June 17, 1920, in Brooklyn Park to Robinson and Pearl (Haven) Bennett. He helped his parents on the family farm. He married Harriet Crooker on Dec. 7, 1940, in Champlin. He entered the Army Air Corps in 1943. He also served in the National Guard from 1947-1951. After his discharge in 1946, he worked for Food, Machinery Corp. in Fridley for 26 years until his retirement in 1978. They moved to Crosslake in 1984. They coordinated the Crosslake Food Shelf from 1985-1999. They were recognized on the WCCO Good Neighbors program for their contribution to the food shelf. He also served on the board of North Central Food Bank of Grand Rapids. He was a member of the American Legion in Crosslake, VFW of Jenkins and a former member of the Pequot Lakes Legion. He was on the Planning and Zoning Board and the Park and Recreation Commission in Crosslake.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Valerie Smith, Brooklyn Park; a son, Milo Bennett, Lino Lakes; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jerry Bennett, Brooklyn Park.
Two brothers, Royce and George, died earlier.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake with Pastor Abe Cardosa officiating. Burial will be in Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake. Military honors will be provided by the Jenkins VFW Post No. 3839.
