Dettbarn, Lions tied at top

Thanks to a decisive win over Peoples Security, Dettbarn Construction launched itself into first place in the Men's Twilight Golf League at Pine Meadows May 3.

Tied for the lead with 16 points is the Lions team who defeated The Bodyworks 9-3 for its stake of the top spot.

Foley and Madden's offer free lessons

Chris Foley, golf professional at Madden's Resort, will offer free 10-minute golf lessons in conjunction with the PGA of America and Golf Digest.

Lessons will be Saturday, May 12 (noon to 2 p.m.), Friday, May 18 (4 to 6 p.m.), Saturday, May 19 (noon to 2 p.m.) and Thursday, May 31 (4 to 6 p.m.) .

To participate in the program, amateur golfers may call Madden's at 829-2811 or log on to www.chrisfoleygolf.com to set up a free lesson. For more information, look in the May issue of Golf Digest.

Foley is also starting a junior golf development school. The school is a six-week program covering all aspects of the game. It combines instruction and play. The days are June 7, 14, 21, 28 and July 5 and 12. Age divisions range from 6-10 and 11 and above.

Callaway and Taylor Made demos

Callaway and Taylor Made will be demonstrating their new products at Pine Meadows. A Callaway representative will be at the course May 10 from 3 to 7 p.m. to offer information about their new products. Taylor Made will be at the course May 17 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Registration begins

Grand View Lodge is accepting registrations for the 10th annual Fred-Mark Invitational at the Preserve and Pines courses. The event is scheduled May 28-29. The public is invited.

Hole in one

Phil Carlson of Virginia aced the par-3, 144-yard 12th hole at Whitebirch Golf Course at Breezy Point April 27.

MGA Women's Mid-Amateur

Kay Gunarson of the Pines at Grand View Lodge and Joan Hasskamp of Cuyuna Country Club will compete in the Minnesota Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship May 14-15 at the Elk River Country Club.

Gunarson tees off at 2:30 p.m. while Hasskamp starts at 3 p.m.

U.S. Open qualifying at Bunker Hills

Daryl Schomer of Pierz Municipal Golf Course and James Strandemo of Tianna Country Club in Walker are among 148 professional and amateur golfers participating in the U.S. Open Local qualifying at Bunker Hills Golf Club Monday.

Ten players will advance to the sectional qualifying at sites held across the country.

Solheim Cup to be in Minnesota

The 2002 Solheim Cup will be played Sept. 20-22 at Interlachen Country Club in Edina.

Patty Berg will be honorary chair of the event. Patty Sheehan is the U.S. team captain.
