Microsoft presented an introduction to its new Office XP package and support services for educators May 1 on the Brainerd campus of Central Lakes College.
CLC is one of only a handful of colleges in the country hosting such unveilings. One reason is that Ron Houle of the CLC faculty is a member of the company's national Higher Education Resource Committee.
Houle, IT coordinator/faculty member, arranged for the event, which was a free, half-day seminar for school administrators, teachers, faculty and staff members.
"Representatives showed how Office XP delivers smarter tools for learning and extends learning beyond the walls of the classroom," said Houle.
The presenters showed new Office XP features and solutions that help students, faculty, administrators and parents save time, collaborate and use resources more effectively.
They provided a sneak peek of Windows XP and preview Encarta Class Server, Microsoft's new Web-based curriculum management solution. Those attending, including several CLC instructors and IT support staff members, learned about academic purchasing options and other programs to help educational institutions transform learning for the 21st century.
