Verndale stops Eagle Valley

EAGLE VALLEY -- Matt Kern and Mike Hess were each 3-for-4 Monday as the Verndale Pirates defeated the Eagle Valley Rebels 10-3 on Monday in a non-conference game.

Kern also finished with two RBI and Hess scored three runs, while teammate Chris Bramer was 2-for-4, scoring two runs and finishing with five RBI.

Pitcher Trent Carr struck out four and gave up two earned runs while tossing a complete game.

BIG LAKE -- The Pierz Pioneers defeated the Big Lake Hornets 10-3 in a Central Minnesota Conference baseball game Monday.

Top hitter for the Pioneers was Greg Pohlkamp, who was 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in the seventh inning. Joe Poepping also hit a solo shot in the fourth inning. Aaron Neu, Nate Stumpf, Brad Bednar each helped the team with two hits.

OGILVIE -- The Aitkin Gobblers stomped the Ogilvie Lions 19-4 in Great River Conference action Monday.

Gobbler Travis Leiviska went 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and a solo home run. He also struck out nine. Senior Ryan Fowlds was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Wes Hoppe went 2-for-3.
