Benefit for Peyten Hyatt and family
There will be a benefit for 6-month-old Peyten Hyatt, daughter of Dennis and Nicole Hyatt, from noon to 4 p.m. May 16 at JR's Junction in Pine Center. There will be a spaghetti lunch ($5/plate), bake sale, silent auction and more.
She underwent heart surgery on April 13 to correct a heart defect she was born with.

Local NARFE Chapter plays leading Alzheimer's research role
This year, the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) will mark a quarter century of leading the fight against Alzheimer's disease. In that time, NARFE members have contributed more than $8 million to Alzheimer's research. Chapter 0738 in Brainerd has been a key part of that effort, raising money for this cause from members and local residents.

Applebee's has partnered with Junior Achievement for a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8-10 a.m. May 15. Boy Scout annual smelt and fish fry
WALKER - Boy Scout Troop 40 of Walker will be hosting its annual smelt and fish fry from 5-7p .m. Friday. This is Troop 40's only fundraiser. Donations are $10 for adults and $6 for kids 12 and under. This is an all-you-can-eat event served at the Spencer Ross Walker American Legion Post 134.
This fundraiser helps fund local Boy Scout outings especially the summer resident camp. This year, six boys will be going to Camp Many Point near Ponsford. The boys will stay for a week and participate in many scouting activities and work toward earning merit badges of their choice.

Ovarian cancer support group to meet Thursday
NISSWA - The next Ovarian Cancer Support Group meeting will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Nisswa American Legion, in the lower level meeting room, located at 25807 Main Street, Nisswa.
The meeting, sponsored by the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA, mnovarian.org), is free and ovarian cancer survivors, family members and friends are invited. GARRISON - Wild and Free will have a garage sale May 14-15. Early sale hours on Friday will be from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday's hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale will be held at the Garrison VFW Hall Pavilion. The Lakes Area Dance Club will hold its monthly dance on Friday at Central Lakes College (Room E101). Bridge benefit planned
CROSSLAKE - There will be a bridge benefit planned for the Mid-Minnesota Women's Center at 11 a.m. June 9 at Maucieri's on CR 3 in Crosslake. All players casual to serious are welcome.
