Hills takes top honors at GRC meet

ONAMIA -- Aitkin's Brian Hills shot a blistering 37 to capture medalist honors at a Great River Conference meet at Izaty's Golf Club Monday. The Gobblers captured second place with a team score of 170.

Team scores -- 1-Moose Lake-Willow River 157, 2-Aitkin 170, 3-Isle 197, 4-Onamia 217.

Medalist -- Brian Hills (A) 37.

Huskies tie for first

HENNING -- Led by Joe Kavanaugh's 43, the Pillager Huskies tied Osakis for first place with a team score of 184 in a Quad County Conference meet Monday.

Rhett hits hole in one

MENAHGA -- Isaac Landecker and Travis Wilson each shot a round of 83 as the Staples-Motley Cardinals boys' golf team finished sixth at the Menahga-Sebeka Invitational at Blueberry Pines.

Pine River-Backus Tigers golfer Logan Sasse finished with a 76, one stroke behind medalist Nole Stay of Bemidji. The Tigers finished the meet tied for tenth place with a team score 368.

Pillager Huskies junior Brian Rhett aced the 124-yard 17th hole. The Huskies, finished in eighth shooting a team score 346 and the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines ended the day in ninth place shooting a team score 357.

Pierz boys golfers finish second

HOWARD LAKE -- Doug Virnig led the Pierz Pioneers boys' golf team with a 38 as the Pioneers took second place with a team score 162 in a Central Minnesota Conference meet at Howard Lake.

The Pioneers dropped another point to the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars and trail them by two points (46-44) in the conference standings.
