Hot, moisture-filled air from the southern Plains was lumbering toward the Great Lakes today, sparking fears of strong storms. A hazy day dawned over the mid-Atlantic, Southeast and Southwest.
A powerful storm system was expected to bring strong and severe thunderstorms from Oklahoma north to Minnesota and east to Michigan. These storms were expected to produce frequent lightning, wind gust over 60 mph, large hail and isolated tornadoes.
The strongest storms were forecast over western Michigan into northern Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, eastern Kansas and Oklahoma.
