Braves pound Upsala

UPSALA -- The Brainerd Braves pounded out 19 hits Sunday en route to a 10-2 victory over the Upsala Blue Jays in a Victory League amateur baseball game.

Mike Bjerkness led the Braves (2-0 Victory, 4-0 overall) with three hits and an RBI, while Nick Weiland was 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI, Marty Hill was 3-for-3 with a double and Adam Browning was 3-for-4.

Ryan Thiesse hit a two-run home run and Weiland hit a three-run shot in the first inning to give the Braves an early 5-0 lead.

Luke Weiland gave up no runs in five innings as he earned the win.

St. Mathias 9, Flensburg 6

FLENSBURG -- Jamie LaDouceur was 3-for-5 with two home runs Sunday to lead the St. Mathias Saints to a 9-6 win over the Flensburg Falcons in the Victory League.

Ben Houle was 2-for-5 with a home run and Todd Vanek was 3-for-5 for the Saints.

Sobieski 20, Fort Ripley 8

SOBIESKI -- Fort Ripley committed five errors Sunday as the Rebels fell for the first time in the Victory League 20-8 to the Sobieski Ski's.

Nate Olson was 4-for-6 with two home runs and Jeff Thoma connected on a grand slam to lead Sobieski, while Curt Veith, Rob Veith and Adam Hardy all hit home runs for the Rebels.

Pierz Bulldogs 11,

Buckman 2

BUCKMAN -- Mitch Becker threw six solid innings Sunday as the Bulldogs dominated the Buckman Billygoats 11-2 in Victory League action.

John Pohlkamp was 2-for-2 with a three-run home run to lead the Bulldogs, while Becker was 2-for-5 with a home run and Clint Sullivan was 2-for-3.

Todd Robinson was 3-for-4 for the Billygoats, while teammates Chris Hoheisal and Dave Woitalla both collected two hits.

Avon 11, Lastrup 3

LASTRUP -- The Lastrup Spurs left 17 men on base Sunday and fell to the Avon Lakers 11-3 in the Victory League.

Avon broke a 3-3 tie with eight runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Tim Lease, Sev Poser and Gave Stott all had two hits for the Spurs.

Brainerd Braves 8,

Sauk Rapids 7

The Brainerd Braves scored one run in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday to slip past Sauk Rapids 8-7 at Mills Field.

Tim Siekas recorded the game-winning single for the Braves, while Damon Miller was 4-for-5 with a two-run home run in the fifth inning.

Randall loses pair

RANDALL -- The Randall Cubs dropped a pair of Victory League contests Saturday, 13-7 to Swanville and 15-10 to Fort Ripley.

Chuck Strack, Jason Karnowski and Mike Prozinski all had three hits for Randall in the Swanville loss, while Dan Strack was 1-for-3 with two RBI and Bobby Sanders was 2-for-4 with two RBI in the Fort Ripley loss.

Fort Ripley's Ray Austin was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI, while teammates Curt Veith, Rob Veith and Tony Veith all had two hits and Scott LeBlanc recorded a grand slam.
