Flyers sweep Sabres

SARTELL - Marissa Gessell picked up both wins on the mound and went 5-for-8 as Little Falls swept a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader 9-4 and 3-2 from Sartell Monday.

Courtney Messinger collected three RBIs in the two games for the Flyers and Paige Beseman contributed two doubles.

VERNDALE - Alicia Johnson's sixth-inning double drove in the game-winning run for the Verndale Pirates in Tuesday's 3-2 Park Region Conference victory over the Bertha-Hewitt Bears.

Nicole Bart silenced the opposition's bats, striking out 10 batters in a complete game. Elizabeth Johnson finished with three steals and scored twice and Crystal Haskin had an RBI for the Pirates.

PINE RIVER - Pine River-Backus defeated Nevis 15-5 in an Upper-Mississippi Conference game Tuesday and improved to 7-1 in conference play.

Wadena-DC sweeps

PARK RAPIDS - Steph Perkins, Kendra Groethmann and Lexi Hoemberg all finished 3-for-4 as Wadena-Deer Creek pounded 15 hits in a 14-3 clubbing of Mid-State Conference opponent Park Rapids in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday. Steph Perkins picked up the win pitching.

Steph Hahn won a 3-2 second game for the Wolverines as Hoemberg finished with a run scored and RBI for W-DC, 8-0 in Mid-State play, 11-1 overall.

Perham sweeps Patriots

PEQUOT LAKES - Kayla Wangen threw five shutout innings for the Pequot Lakes Patriots before the Perham Yellowjackets got hot at the plate to sweep a Mid-State Conference double-header Tuesday.

Wangen struck out seven batters and only surrendered one walk and four hits in the 3-0 Game One loss. Chelsey Thorson went 2-for-3 with a double for the Patriots in the opener.

Ashley Zimmerman collected a triple, RBI and a run for the Patriots in Game Two's 9-4 loss. Megan Hogen was 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Nicole Marcy was 2-for-3 and pounded her second home run of the season for the Huskies.
