Florence Rebekah Lodge No. 111

Florence Rebekah Lodge No. 111 recently met for a social meeting with an Easter party and program. Eva Young, secretary of the lodge for 17 years, was recognized and honored for her many years of dedicated service to the lodge.

At the May meeting, Elaine Wischmann, district president from Aitkin, made an official visit to the lodge. Marge Howard, district secretary, Philomena Bracket, district treasurer for the Rebekahs and Margaret Swanson, accompanied her. The district meeting will be held Sept. 23 in Ironton. The next meeting will be 3 p.m. May 15 at the Salvation Army in the north room.

B and B Club

The Bella Vista-Brainerd Club (B and B Club) will meet at 11:30 a.m. Sawmill Inn in Brainerd to resume the summer schedule of meeting the third Wednesday of the month. All northwest Arkansas residents who spend time in the Brainerd area during the summer are invited to attend any of the lunches. For further information, contact Liz Curren at 575-2281.

N.M.W.G. meeting

N.M.W.G. will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Aitkin Hardwoods (from Deerwood, go east on Hwy. 210 approximately 7-8 miles to CR 28 or Cedar Lake Road. Turn right and go about a mile. You'll see a large sign on the left side of the road). Rich will give a tour of the old building and discuss the plans and ideas for the new building. They plan to carry exotic woods. He will answer any questions you may have regarding the building and/or woods. Come prepared with questions for him. For further questions, call Elaine at 829-7292. This will be the last meeting until September.

Firearms safety training

Firearms safety training has begun and will end May 18. Evening classes are from 6-9 p.m. Call 829-7582 to register.

Elkettes meeting

Elkettes will meet at 5:30 p.m. May 15 at Oak Lawn Tavern.

N.A.R.V.E.

The National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Brainerd Public Library. Lunch will follow the meeting.

Hosting exchange students

Brainerd Area Pine Tree Patchworkers

Brainerd Area Pine Tree Patchworkers will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Brainerd Public Library meeting room. Program will be by Ellie Knold, who will speak about the clubs' various community service projects. Morning group will meet from 9 a.m.-noon May 16 at First Presbyterian Church for basting and working on nursing home quilts.

Sons of Norway

The Sons of Norway will meet at 7 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Brainerd (one time only location change). No cultural video. Program: Janet Martin, speaker and author on Scandinavian humorous subjects. The public is invited.

Alpha Chapter 223 OES

Meeting will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at Masonic Hall. We will be honoring mothers.

Pleasant Hill Cemetery

The Pleasant Hill Cemetery annual clean-up will be 9 a.m. Wednesday with the meeting at 11 a.m. In the event of rain, it will be Friday.

Brainerd Garden Club

The Brainerd Garden Club will meet at noon at Paul Bunyan Learning Center for a salad luncheon. The club will get an update on the Learning Center and be able to take a tour. Those interested may call Ruth Valerius at 829-4544.

Center-Mission Garden Club

The Center-Mission Garden Club will meet Wednesday at Mission Town Hall with a potluck at 12:30 p.m. and a meeting at 1:30 p.m. Bring plants, bulbs or seeds for an exchange.

AMVETS

American Veterans Post No. 26 will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Brainerd American Legion Post. Individuals who have served or are currently serving in the active military, guards or reserves are eligible to be members and are invited to attend. Call 825-9142 for more information.

'A Blooming Good Time'

The Brainerd Area Christian Women's Club will meet from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Waterfall Inn. Cost: $6.50 each inclusive. "Growing Friendship" is a mother/daughter presentation and there is "Colorful Notes" and "Late Bloomer," Anna Gardner from Shorewood, a grandmother who graduated from college. Single Connection to sponsor dance

The Single Connection will sponsor a singles dance, with social hour at 8 p.m. and the dance at 9 p.m., with music by Whiskey Logic, on Saturday at the Pierz Bar and Banquet Hall. Bake sale

CROSSLAKE -- Crosslake/Fifty Lakes Legion Auxiliary Post 500 will be sponsoring a bake sale starting at 6 p.m. Friday in the club room at Post 500 in Crosslake.

Senior dance

MOTLEY -- There will be a senior dance at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Motley 10-High. Music will be by Country Pride.

Wives and widows meet

Brainerd fireman wives and widows will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Chaparrel restaurant for breakfast.

Retired federal workers to meet

The Brainerd Chapter 738 of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees will gather for a lunch meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bonanza.

Paul Bunyan Jamboree

The 47th annual Paul Bunyan Jamboree will be hosted by Ray's Promenaders at 2 p.m. Sunday at Baxter Elementary School.

Area callers will be calling and prizes will be given away. All area dancers are welcome.

PEQUOT LAKES -- There will be a senior dance 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Pequot Lakes Senior Center. Music will be by Roman and Don.

Volunteers recognized

Community volunteers who filled out thousands of 1999 federal and state income tax returns will be honored at a ceremony from 10 a.m.-noon Tuesday at the American Legion in Walker. Awards will be presented to outstanding volunteers and all volunteers will be recognized for their contribution. Tax volunteers from throughout the state are invited to attend. Similar recognition events were held during late April in Mankato and St. Paul.
