Fuhrman's no-hitter pilots Pierz

PIERZ - Katelyn Fuhrman pitched a complete-game no-hitter and struck out nine to pilot the Pierz Pioneers to a 3-0 win over the Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles in a Central Minnesota Conference game Monday.

Autumn Woitalla was 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored for the Pioneers, while Shelby Fuhrman went 2-for-3 with a double and a run.

Pine River-Backus 7, Kelliher-Northome 3

PINE RIVER - The Kelliher-Northome Mustangs should've invested in a better home security system as the Pine River-Backus Tigers stole home three times in one inning in a 7-3 victory in an Upper Mississippi Conference game Monday.

Erin Johnson picked up the win for the Tigers, striking out five in a complete-game effort. Katie Wangberg and Emalee Arends stroked doubles while Nikki Tulenchik tripled for the Tigers.

Tulenchik and Michelle Dixon each knocked in a run, while Kirsti Taylor collected two RBIs.

Pillager 18, Pequot Lakes 8

PEQUOT LAKES - Pillager used small ball to perfection in an 18-8 victory over Pequot Lakes in non-conference play Monday.

"We shot ourselves in the foot a little bit," Pequot Lakes coach Bret Sergent said. "The score would have been a lot closer if we didn't. Baserunning cost us tonight."

Chelsey Thorson, Kelsey Friesz and Renee Kardell doubled for Pequot Lakes.

Emily Doss had two doubles for Pillager and Kaylie Hanson and Nicole Marcy each had one.

VERNDALE - Nicole Bart pitched a complete game, allowing just two earned runs with 12 strikeouts, in Verndale's 8-2 non-conference victory over Ashby Monday.

Bart also had a good day with the bat, going 2-3 with an RBI. Alicia Johnson was 2-4 with two RBIs as the Pirates banged out eight hits.

AITKIN - Emily Mehr pulled double duty in Aitkin's 5-1 win over Isle in Great River Conference action Monday.

On the mound Mehr allowed one run on one hit and two walks in seven innings while striking out five. She went 2-for-3 with an RBI double at the plate.
