WALKER -- County Engineer David Enblom obtained Cass County Board approval Tuesday to spend $100,000 for Cass' share of a joint paving project on Cass County State Aid Highway 43.
That road runs along the county line around the east side of Horseshoe Lake, northeast of Pine River. The finished pavement will carry a seven-ton load and will be subject to seasonal weight restrictions, according to Enblom.
CSAH 43 carries about 300 vehicles per day, he said.
The board also authorized Enblom to apply for state funding from a fund the Legislature recently authorized for safety improvements on roads in the state.
If the state approves funding for Cass' projects, the money will be used to lower a blind hill along CSAH 1 south of Pine River and provide a landing at the top of a steep hill approaching CSAH 1 from a Maple Township road.
This project has been in planning stages for a couple years, waiting for a funding source, according to Enblom.
