2 exhibits on display at college

An exhibit of the best work from the annual Central Lakes College juried art competition will be on display through May 10 in the gallery on the Brainerd campus.

"The most exciting pieces are the ones where the ideas evolved while making the work," said artist Lance Kiland, who judged the work.

The featured artists include:

Holly Smith, Aitkin, "Tiki Man" (watercolor, ink, tea, raffia, polymer clay), "Teapot" (earthenware) and "Spike" (earthenware).

Leah M. Jorgens, Breezy Point, "La Amistad" (pencil) and "I'd Either Surf or Ski" (oil pastel).

Hayden Lintner, Wadena, "Spring" (ceramic), "Elements" (ceramic) and "Untitled" (ceramic).

R. Edward Lewis, Brainerd, "Cerebral Soul Sty" (two photo sculptures).

Ashley Lambke, Baxter, "Climbing" (glazed earthenware), "Stumbling" (glazed earthenware) and "Colorful Beast" (glazed earthenware).

Vanessa Berens, Brainerd, "The Beach" (pencil).

Samantha Dvorak, Motley, "Itch" (oil on canvas), "Nest" (oil and acrylic on canvas) "Too (oil on canvas).

Meggan Denny, East Gull Lake, "A Night on the City" (charcoal).

CLC photo contest attracts record number of entrants

Awards have been given out in the 41st annual Central Lakes College photo contest, which featured a record 195 entries from 42 photographers representing 20 communities in and beyond Minnesota.

The photo show will be on display through Friday in the CLC Gallery on the Brainerd campus.

Winners were:

Nicole Vry, Wadena: Best of Show in black and white, runner-up in color and two other first-place awards.

Tajia Anderson, Hallock: Runner-up in black and white, first place in black and white portrait and a first place in color flower.

Jennifer Orestano, Brainerd: Best Techno-Gadget theme award and first place in color flower.

Kali Anderson, Forest Lake: Best of Show in color.

Richard Lewis, Brainerd: Judge's Award for a creative sepia-tone stylized 1900s scene, first place for black and white landscape and portrait, and a color award.

Linda Beasley, Brainerd: Three first-place in color, including one in the action category.

Melissa Lee, Henning: Three first-place awards - black and white in children and portrait and a color close-up in animals.

Carol Mills of Crosby: First place and Judge's Award in color landscape and black and white creative photo.

Nicole Belmore, McGregor: First place in a color children and black and white flower.

Danelle Jensen, Forest Lake: First place in color creative and black and white children.

Nancy L. Thompson, Pequot Lakes: First place in Techno-Gadget.

Martha Krueger, Baxter: First place in black and white landscape.

Gary Fitch, Brainerd: First place in color action.

Samantha Nordlund, Parkers Prairie: First place in color bird.

Chelsea Rae Ottomoeller, Clarissa: First place in color children.

Marlowe Kingstead, Pequot Lakes: First place and Judge's Award in color landscape.

Matt Anderson, Estero, Fla.: First place and Judge's Award in color landscape.

Diane Scearcy, Brainerd: First place in color landscape.
