After months of digging, hammering and general construction, the new, expanded Westgate Mall is starting to look like a shopping center.

30 years ago (1975)

National Guard, Civil Defense, and Aitkin County Sheriff's officers worked through the night evacuating people and livestock in the wake of a flood which has covered about 4,000 acres with water.

40 years ago (1965)

Funds for helping in Brainerd youth projects will be raised at the annual Lions Club smelt dinner Friday evening. Carl O. Peterson is in charge of the arrangements.

60 years ago (1945)

Against a background of colonial times, 55 couples danced to the music of Sgt. Fred Raniele's Fort Snelling Orchestra Friday night at the annual junior-senior prom.

80 years ago (1925)

Captain William H. Fawcett is a most philosophical man. His early army life probably caused it. Bill is never perturbed about switching lake levels. "It's this way," he said, "when the water is low I have more land, and when it's high I have more water at the Breezy Point Lodge."

As a result of the heavy rain of yesterday R. H. Capestrant Mail carrier on the St. Mathias route, reports that the water in the Nokay Sebie raised 22 inches and in Hay Creek three-and-a-half feet.
