Because of the amount of information requests received from one council member, the city of Brainerd will be looking at adding another administration staffer in 2006.
Council member Anne Nelson Fisher asked that the issue be put on Monday's Personnel and Finance Committee agenda after she talked with City Administrator Dan Vogt about how his staffers' time was burdened by fulfilling information requests.
"I have to be honest, this is directed at me," said council member Bob Olson of the staff request at the Personnel and Finance Committee meeting. Olson noted that similar complaints have been lodged against him in the past.
"Absolutely," said Vogt. "Bob Olson is the reason for this request."
Olson said he and the other council members need the information he requests because sometimes council members weren't getting the information from the administrator's office.
Fisher said the request for an additional staffer wasn't an attempt at keeping Olson from getting information.
"But sometimes you're asking staff to reformat information, sometimes decades old information ... and that takes time," Fisher said.
Vogt said in the month of April he personally received 60 memos from Olson, a majority of which requested information.
"And those were only the ones directed to me. I don't know about other staffers," Vogt said. "There is no way we can keep up with the volume."
No formal action was taken. The issue wasn't discussed during the city council meeting.
In other action, the council:
