Habitat for Humanity to host golf tourney
PINE RIVER -- The North Crow Wing Chapter of Habitat for Humanity will hold the second annual Habitat Benefit Golf Tournament on June 4 at Irish Hills Golf Club.
The tournament, a 9-hole, four-person scramble, will feature a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The $40 entry fee includes a cart and picnic lunch following golf. The tournament has a maximum of 72 players, so those interested are encouraged to call early to reserve a place.
Piney Ridge will donate all green fees and the picnic dinner; several other area businesses will sponsor holes and donate prizes. Because of the generosity of these sponsors all proceeds of the tournament will go directly to the Lakes Area Chapter for ongoing Habitat projects.
A person working 40 hours per week at minimum wages earns $206 a week. A typical two-bedroom apartment in the lakes area ranges from $450 to $650 per month. The average monthly mortgage payment for a Habitat family is $250, which provides an opportunity for a family to own its own home.
The average cost of a Habitat house built in the lakes area is $48,000. The number of people living in Habitat built homes in the lakes area is 118. The North Crow Wing Chapter completed homes for two families in the last year and plans are in place for a third to begin soon.
