VERNDALE -- The Pequot Lakes Patriots swept a doubleheader from the Verndale Pirates by scores of 9-5 and 4-2 in Park Region Conference play Tuesday.
Jenna Carlson led the Patriots offensively in the first game going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while teammate Liz Kraft went 2-3 with two RBI.
Rachel Landecker pitched all seven innings in the first game, allowing seven hits and two earned runs with nine strikeouts.
Cassie Smith went 2-3 with a double and one RBI for the Patriots in the second game.
Kelly Olson of Verndale went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in the sixth inning of the first game and teammate Beth Rogge went 2-3 with one run scored and one RBI.
Steph Tomte relieved starter Cherice Fuller in the second inning of game two and retired 14 of the 19 Patriots batters that she faced in the 4-2 defeat.

Wolverines, Detroit Lakes split
WADENA -- The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines split a doubleheader with the Detroit Lakes Lakers Tuesday, winning the first game 2-1 and then dropping the second 11-0.
Missy Schwartz of W-DC went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles in the first game and Kari Dykhoff went 2-3 including a key two-run single in the fifth inning.
Tara Snyder and Tahna Beckman each went 2-for-3 for W-DC in the second game loss.

The Flyers defense committed 13 errors in the two games.
"We weren't aggressive offensively or defensively in the two games today," said Flyers coach Ron Hinnenkamp.
