Beginning Yoga offered in Staples

STAPLES -- Yoga sessions will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays from May 16-31 in the lower level of Greater Staples Hospital.

Yoga is for stretching, strengthening, balance, stress reduction, developing flexibility, improving posture and coordination. Through the breathing exercises, circulation is improved to the entire body, providing oxygen for cell regeneration.

Learn the postures and be able to do yoga in the privacy of your own home if desired. Yoga requires no special clothing or shoes.

Cost is $30. To register, call the education department at 894-0332.

First aid class

offered in Staples

STAPLES -- Lakewood Health System, Staples, will offer an American Red Cross First Aid Class from 6 to 10 Thursday, May 25.

The purpose of the American Red Cross Standard First Aid course is to train citizens to help people in emergencies. This course teaches the standard first aid skills a person needs to act as the first link in the emergency medical services system.

The focus of this course is to prepare participants to respond correctly in emergencies. The skills and techniques they learn will:

-- Help participants to stay calm in emergencies because they know what to do.

-- Help participants to make decisions and take appropriate steps to keep a victim alive and keep injuries from getting worse until the emergency medical services system arrives.

The cost for the class is $27. To register, call the education department at 894-0332.
