Nominations are being sought for Outstanding Senior Citizens of Cass County for the year 2000.
Selected will be a man and a woman who are age 70 by Aug. 1 and whose outstanding community involvement can serve as an example to others in the county. They will be honored at the Council on Aging delegate luncheon in August.
Those selected will receive plaques from the Cass County Council on Aging, and certificates of commendation from Gov. Jesse Ventura. Their names will be submitted to the Minnesota Board on Aging for the state selection process for outstanding senior citizens. The winners will be named at the Minnesota State Fair on the second Thursday of the fair.
People wishing to make nominations for these awards can obtain an official nomination form by writing to the Coordinator of Aging at P.O. Box 3000, Walker, Minn. 56484 or calling 1-888-547-3301, or 547-7414. Entry forms can also be picked up at senior clubs, senior nutrition sites and family centers.
The deadline for acceptance of nomination forms is June 2.
Judging will be based primarily on the number and variety of contributions nominees have made to their communities after age 65. Nominees must be residents of Cass County. Previous nominees are eligible to participate again in this ceremony. Previous county winners, not selected as a state winner, are now also eligible to participate again.
Selection of the Minnesota's Outstanding Senior Citizens is a joint effort of the Minnesota Board on Aging, the State Fair Board and the Cass County Council on Aging.
