Bi-County Head Start is accepting applications for the 2000-2001 Head Start year.
Head Start is a preschool program that promotes the growth and development of young children and their parents. Services include: health (medical, dental, nutrition and emotional), education, parent involvement, family services and services to children with disabilities.
To be eligible for Head Start a child must be either 3 or 4 by Sept. 1, 2000. Another criteria for being selected into the program is limited income.
Outreach dates have been scheduled with a representative from the Bi-County Head Start Program to take applications. They are:
Thursday -- 10 a.m.-2 p.m., WIC at Pine River Family Center; 4:30-7 p.m., open house at Longville Family Center and Leader School (Highway 64).
May 8 -- 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m., WIC at Hope Lutheran Church in Walker; preschool screening at Pillager, Baptist Church (call Wanda at 746-3557 for time schedule).
May 10 -- 10 a.m.-noon and 1-2 p.m., WIC at Remer City Hall
May 11 -- 4:30-7 p.m., open house at Backus Head Start Center.
May 15 -- 4:30-7 p.m., open house at Pillager Elementary School in the Early Childhood room.
May 16 -- Noon-2:30 p.m., WIC at Pillager Family Center.
Bring the following information, which is confidential: income proof (for the past 12 months) or 1999 tax return, Social Security numbers for all family members, child's M.A. number, immunization records for child, date of last dental and physical for child.
Applications will be taken throughout the summer at the Bi-County CAP office at Ah-Gwah-Ching and will be available at Longville, Pine River, Pillager and Walker, family centers.
