CASS LAKE -- The Cass County Board on Tuesday delayed any payment toward a land purchase on Mule Lake in Wabedo Township until the county receives a $2 million grant for a revolving fund. The Leech Lake Watershed Foundation seeks to preserve that land.
The total area the watershed foundation seeks to preserve is 361 acres of the east shoreline between county administered land and the lake. The foundation sought county funding for 32 acres of that.
Land Commissioner Norm Moody obtained board approval to accept the low bid from Honda Yamaha Sports at $5,297.31 to purchase a four-wheeler.
Land department personnel will use it to access county administered land. It also will be available to any county department needing to access remote areas, Moody said.
The county sold $482,493 worth of timber stumpage from county land at an April 27 auction. Moody said aspen timber sales were higher than in recent sales, because much of this sale was accessible during summer months and from easily accessible roads.
Board members voted to give $5,000 to the city of Cass Lake toward its Nelson Memorial Park swimming beach and park improvement project.
Park improvement funds have been provided to the city of Pine River in the past, Moody said.
