Edina Realty of Crosslake donated $500 to the Mid-Minnesota Women's Center from its Edina Realty Foundation in memory of office assistant Jill Reed, who died Nov. 30, 2007.
Reed had selected the women's shelter in Brainerd several years ago as a favorite charity to receive foundation dollars. In addition to sending cash grants to the shelter, Reed also led collection drives for toys and personal items for moms and their children.
Rain garden workshop scheduled May 14-16
The Northland Arboretum will sponsor a rain garden workshop May 14-16.
The workshop will educate participants on how to design and install an effective rain garden to minimize stormwater runoff from their property. On the first day of the workshop, attendees will design a rain garden. The remaining two days will be spent planting the garden.
Participants are encouraged to attend the design workshop - from 6-9 p.m. - and one of the two planting days - also three hours long.
Participants are asked to bring a simple sketch of their property indicating building structures, location of down spouts and current vegetation, a photograph of the site and a soil sample.
The workshop is geared for Northland Arboretum members, property owners, landscape, nursery and natural resource professionals and master gardeners.
The workshop is offered through the University of Minnesota Extension Shoreland Education Program.
Registration must be received by May 6. Register at the arboretum or pick up a registration form at the University of Minnesota Extension office.
Cost is $10 for arboretum members and $20 for non-members. Cost includes education materials and refreshments.
For more information, contact Jackie Froemming at the extension office at 824-1068 or email@example.com.
