ANOKA -- The Central Lakes College Raiders baseball team clinched a spot in the Minnesota Community College Conference state tournament Saturday by sweeping a Central Division doubleheader from Anoka-Ramsey.
Aaron Jenkins pitched a one-hitter, struck out four and walked three as CLC defeated the Rams 10-1 in the first game Adam Johnson and Blake Thorson were both 2-for-4 with RBIs to support Jenkins' pitching.
"Our pitching was superior," Raiders coach Warren Mertens said. "Aaron was going on three days rest but he said he was ready to go."
Aaron Jenkins tossed a one-hitter.
The victory clinched no less than second place for CLC in the division.
In the second game, Beau Mertens and Adam Johnson combined to pitch the Raiders to a 7-2 victory. Mertens went six innings, struck out two and walked one. Adam Johnson pitched the seventh.
"Adam's been doing rehab on his arm," Warren Mertens said. "I was planning on him being one of our top starters this season. He's been playing third base and has been able to throw, but he hasn't been able to pitch until Saturday."
At bat, Adam Johnson and Josh Meissner were 2-3 with RBIs and Justin Huether was 1-3 with two RBI.
