Housing agency awards millions for affordable housing
The Minnesota Housing Finance Agency announced $33.2 million for affordable housing projects statewide.
Funding awards are selected through a collaborative, multi-organizational super request for proposal process, which allows applicants to request funds from numerous sources through a one-stop-shopping system. Funding partners conduct two funding rounds per year when the organizations award the pooled funds to selected applicants.
The $6.8 million of MHFA resources awarded to 24 single-family housing development and rehabilitation projects will provide about 220 new affordable housing units and rehab about 170 existing housing units. Projects funded include new construction and rehabilitation, as well as flood assistance for single-family owner-occupied housing.
A total of $12.7 million in awards will be made for single-family projects and programs with funding partners -- the Greater Minnesota Housing Fund, Family Housing Fund and the Metropolitan Council -- providing the balance of funds.
Developments in the Twin Cities metro area and in greater Minnesota received funding.
