Presbyterians call new pastor

At a meeting Sunday, the congregation of First Presbyterian Church of Brainerd called the Rev. Harold Tongen of Wheaton as its new pastor. He will be the 17th senior pastor in the church's 113-year history. He will begin his duties June 1.

Christian music festival

A Christian music festival will be held June 29 at Baxter Park. All groups and individuals playing Christian music are invited. All styles are invited: rock, country, contemporary, worship teams and individuals.

This will be a potluck event as well, so bring food and beverages along with blankets and chairs.

Help is being sought to organize and work this event. Help is needed with promotion, scheduling, sound system, set up and clean up. Call 821-2170 for more details.

St. Andrew's CCW meetings

St. Isidore's, 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Hickory Grille (the old Hasse's); St. Joseph's, 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Green Mill; St. Michael's, 11:30 a.m. May 14 at the Green Mill. Hostesses: Marian Gau and Beatrice Kisor.

Community Covenant Church garage sale

The Community Covenant Church will have a huge garage sale beginning at 9 a.m. each day May 8, 9 and 10 at 4635 Gull Lake Dam Road. Proceeds will go to the Christian Education Department.

Men's Club of St. Paul's Episcopal to meet

The Men's Club will meet at 8 a.m. Saturday in the St. Paul's Episcopal Church kitchen for fellowship, breakfast, prayers and worship.

'Catholics Returning Home' series to start Monday

Brainerd area Catholic parishes will conduct an ongoing series called "Catholics Returning Home" at 7 p.m. on six consecutive Mondays in the the St. Francis Catholic Church basement beginning this Monday. These sessions are for non-practicing Catholics who are seeking answers to questions about returning to the church. There will be informal sharing and an update of the Catholic faith. Organ series scheduled for this summer

Organists and churches in the Brainerd, Baxter and Nisswa areas will present a series of organ recitals starting in June and continuing through the summer from noon to 12:30 p.m. every Wednesday. Each week a program will be presented in a different church by a different organist. People who attend may bring a sack lunch. Juice or coffee will be available. A freewill offering will be taken at each church. Schedule will follow.
