Jamie Smith, a junior at Brainerd High School, was named 1999-2000 Cheerleader of the Year at the annual cheerleading awards banquet held April 25 at the high school cafeteria.
Smith participated this year in varsity football cheerleading, varsity basketball cheerleading and was a member of the state champion competitive cheer team.
Other recipients of the individual team awards were Varsity Football Cheerleading: Katy Matich, high flyer; Jamie Smith, power base; Jenny Olson, most improved; Katy Matich, most spirited; and Jamie Smith, most valuable cheerleader.
Junior Varsity Football Cheerleading: Mindy Kohl, high flyer; Kim Mulroy, power base; Jenna Kintop and Kelsey Haff, most improved players; and Kim Mulroy, most valuable cheerleader.
Competitive Cheer Team: Katy Matich, high flyer; Jamie Smith, power base; most improved, Nicole Brausen; Tina VanEssen, most spirited; and most valuable cheerleader, Jamie Smith.
Varsity Basketball Cheerleading: Mindy Kohl, high flyer; Jamie Smith, power base; Mindy Kohl, most improved; Jenni Lange, most spirited; and Nicole Goochey, most valuable cheerleader.
Junior Varsity Basketball: Ally McCluney, high flyer; Katrina McFatridge, power base; Andrea Gillingham, most improved; Carrie VanSickle, most improved; and Tiffany Cummings, most valuable cheerleader.
