20 years ago (1990)

(Photo) Officer Terry Crocker shows off one of the Brainerd Police Department's newest squad cars. The department is changing its color scheme for squads from blue to white, and the white vehicles will show the city's water tower emblem.

30 years ago (1980)

Taking advantage of yesterday's large turnout at the Brainerd Area Commerce and Industry Show, striking Larco employees took their case to the public. "We're not picketing this show, we're just giving our side of the story," they said.

40 years ago (1970)

Thieves made off with $500 from a safe in the Faust Beverage company office just east of Brainerd on Highway 210. Officers said entry was gained by breaking a window. Once inside the safe was opened and cash taken from money bags.

60 years ago (1950)

Closing of the Scenic Highway to Merrifield by flooding continues to cause problems. Some residents north of Brainerd haven't had mail in weeks. To avoid a 27-mile detour via Lake Hubert, some are driving to the north of the flooded area, then rowing to work.

80 years ago (1930)

Adding protection to the woods from forest fires, a 94-foot tower of the new type stands completed today and manned at Borden Lake. This is the sixth new type tower in the district, the others being at Ahren's Hill, Emily, Pequot, Spider Lake and Rail Prairie.

100 years ago (1910)

At half past four on Saturday, Harold, adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lund, of Oak Street, was run over by a horse and buggy and killed instantly. He and three other lads had been hitching a ride on a hay wagon and jumped off, Harold slipping under the buggy.
