Curl up with Cosy Sheridan when the Utah folkie performs the season's final Grassroots Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Nisswa Community Center. Admission is $10-$15.

Hair-raising

Twin Cities '80s music cover band Hairball, including Brainerd native Dan Dryden on bass, will perform its popular costume-laden concert at 9:15 p.m. Thursday at the Blue Ox Bar in Brainerd. Admission is $6.

Showing off

The 44th annual Staples Rotary Arts Show will feature works to peruse and purchase from 7:30-10 p.m. Thursday (during a Staples-Motley High School choir concert), 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday in the Centennial Auditorium lobby in Staples. Also check out the Freshwater Education District Student Art Show. Admission is free.

Violin or fiddle?

What's the difference between a violin and a fiddle? It's the same instrument, but how it's played creates the definition. The Great River Strings (violin) and Skal Klubben Spelmanslag (fiddle) will illustrate the difference through music at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Crosby-Ironton High School auditorium and 2 p.m. Sunday at First Lutheran Church in Aitkin. Admission is $3-$5.
