Sami Rasouli, an Iraq native and citizen of Minnesota, will speak in two programs Friday at Central Lakes College in Brainerd.
Rasouli left his home country of Iraq in 1976 in search of freedom. After traveling and living in Germany, Rasouli came to Minnesota in 1986.
In 2001, he became an American citizen, living in Minneapolis where he owned a restaurant, Sinbad's.
In response to what he saw upon returning to Iraq, he created and became director of the Muslim Peacemaker Teams, which are groups of people working to promote peace among Muslim religions competing for control in Iraq.
