The St. John's University junior varsity swept a doubleheader from the Central Lakes College Raiders baseball team Friday night at Mills Field.
St. John's won the first game 6-0 despite a complete game by the Raiders' Tom Stevens. He struck out seven, walked five and gave up eight hits.
In the second game, CLC lost 5-4 despite another complete game, by Beau Mertens. He gave up two home runs and nine hits but struck out eight and walked only one.
Bryan Hennen tripled for CLC. Danny Saehr doubled with one out in the seventh but was stranded.
The Raiders played a doubleheader against Northland on Saturday. CLC had to sweep the Pioneers to qualify for the state tournament. The top four teams in each division advance to state.
Both teams entered the contest with 10-12 division records. Northland swept the Raiders 7-3 and 17-11 on April 21. If the teams split both would be 11-13 and Northland would advance by virtue of beating the Raiders three of four times.
