Hometown: St. Paul, has lived in Brainerd for past 25 years
Family: Children, Sarah and Brian
Volunteer activities: Crow Wing County 4-H, Mary was a adult leader for 14 years and is now active on the county level, Minnesota Bluebird recovery program, St. Francis Church prayer line, Brainerd Medical Center program called community action that does internal fundraisers and purchases gifts for families at Christmas and help families in need.
I volunteer because: I feel that the 4-H organization is very helpful in the development of youth and helping them reach there potential in society. Volunteering helps me keep busy and active in my community; I believe that we should give back to our community. Before moving to Brainerd I was active in 4-H in Ramsey County and feel that 4-H has helped me accomplish many goals in life.
My most rewarding volunteer experience: The number of kids that I have seen touched and influenced by the program that go on to be confident, caring, organized leaders who make a difference in the world.
Nominated by: Dawn McGuigan, Crow Wing County 4-H, who said, "Mary has been a 4-H volunteer for 16 years. Even after her children graduated from the 4-H program Mary continues to play an active role by serving on committees and helping out at events. She is also a wonderful knowledge base/resource when we have questions about how things came to be."
