'Wiley and the Hairy Man' to be staged Saturday
The Central Lakes College Reader's Theatre production of Suzan Zeder's "Wiley and the Hairy Man" will be staged at 10 a.m. Saturday in Dryden Theatre on the Brainerd campus. Admission is $2 at the door.
Brianna Keran plays the conjure woman and mother of young Wiley in the Central Lakes College Readers Theatre production, "Wily and the Hairy Man," scheduled for one showing at 10 p.m. Saturday in Dryden Theatre at CLC.
Set in a swamp, the story focuses on a fatherless lad, his conjure-woman mother, a faithful hound dog and "the hairy man" who haunts Wiley.
Not recommended for pre-schoolers, this is nevertheless an outstanding story for school-aged children, said instructor Dennis Lamberson, who teaches the reader's theater class at CLC.
Class members participating in this production are Josh Anderson of Brainerd, Jaime Bellefeuille of Little Falls, Matt Cummings of Deerwood, Lydia Hawley of Emily, Jennifer Hoppe of Holdingford, Ross Derheimer, Joe Niklaus and Brianna Keran of Baxter, Kim Mulroy of Fort Ripley, Derrick Paulson of Nisswa and Amelia Watson of Merrifield.

Lakes area singers in New York
Eight members of the Concordia Choir and Orchestra are from the Brainerd lakes area. They are Meghan Gunderson (left), Pequot Lakes; Louie Lauer, East Gull Lake; Cal Preisinger, Deerwood; Ana Sawdey, Nisswa; Mike Hart, Baxter; Peter Larson, Pine River; Anna Erickson, East Gull Lake; and Breanna Schoek, Walker (formerly of Baxter).
Eight Brainerd lakes area singers were members of the Concordia (Moorhead) Choir and Orchestra that performed three New York City concerts in February. Nearly 8,000 people filled two performances in Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center and an evening concert at the famous Riverside Church.
The Concordia music groups were in New York at the request of the American Choral Directors Association, who commissioned Rene Clausen, conductor of the Concordia Choir, to write a composition commemorating the attacks of 9-11.
