One of the state's most dedicated and conscientious stewards was honored over the weekend. He is Walt Stark, the Department of Natural Resources district forester, who is headquartered in Pillager. 30 of his 37 years have been spent in the Pillager district.

The Brainerd City Council last night failed to get all the needed six votes to approve the 1972 Street Overlay program and as a result, the project has been dropped for the year.

The Brainerd Exchange Club was named The Exchange Club of the Year at the Annual State Convention held this weekend at St. Cloud.

The City of Brainerd under the supervision of the Junior Chamber of Commerce will observe "Victory Cleanup," Paint Up and Fix Up" Week beginning May 4.
80 years ago (1922)
Said Mrs. Elizabeth Fleener today in speaking of her garden: "I have a volunteer crop of radishes, a whole row, growing in my garden. Nobody planted them, they just grew up from last year's seed."
100 years ago (1902)
Frieda Olson, the cook at the City Hotel, smashed her finger in a small mill. It is a bad injury but not serious at all.
