A combined 52 runs was more than enough for the Central Lakes College Raiders softball team as it won both games of a doubleheader from Minnesota West Community College Saturday.
With a 33 run cousin Nanette Ostlund held West hitless for a 33-0 win in the first game. She had two strikeouts and two walks in her five innings of work.
"Nanette pitched an excellent game," said Raiders head coach Dennis Eastman. "She faced 17 batters and got 15 of them out. She's getting more and more consistent. She's becoming a pitcher not just a thrower.
"Our hitting was good. We talked a lot about patience and it paid off. This was a game that on one hand you're glad to see the hits but on the other hand you can create a lot of bad habits and false securities."
The Raiders knocked out 25 hits lead by Amy Martinson who was 6-for-6 with five runs, two doubles, a triple, and six RBI. Becki Wagner was 5-6 with four runs a homer and six RBI. Teammate Destiny Smith was 3-4 with five runs, three triples, five RBI and two walks.
In the second game it was much of the same. This time Jenny Sovich picked-up the win giving up only five hits and one walk, striking out six and holding West scoreless in a 19-0 win.
"It was a credit to our players by staying as focused as they were," said Eastman. "It took us a couple of innings to get going again. I think we expected to keep hitting like the first game. In the sixth inning we proved again when these players get hot they're dangerous."
Becky Poster was 4-4 with four runs, one double and two RBI. Smith was 4-5 with four RBI, two runs, three doubles, one homer and a walk. Suzy Baratto of Pequot Lakes had a homer to go along with her 4-5 hitting. She also had three runs and two RBI.
"This week we have a make-up game against Bethany who is undefeated in our conference. So we have to forget about this game and get back to reality."
