BARROWS - More than 130 cars started out the North Central Speedway season Saturday.
Cory Rosen was a top-five finisher in the Street Stock class in 2006. He started by himself on row four in his heat race and made quick work of the field on his way to a first-place finish. Jack Peterson and Jeff Innes also won heat victories.
Rosen was poised to run away from the field starting from row one in the feature event, but Mark Johnson had problems with his car and the caution flag came out four laps into the race.
During the caution, Rosen got a flat on his rear right tire. That opened the door for Innes, who had been racing since he was 16-years-old without a feature win. He was not to be denied, holding off Jason Vandekamp, who came from row eight, to take the checkered flag.
"I have been racing off and on since age 16 and I'm 42 now," said Innes. "It was a big monkey off my back.

"Hopefully (Rosen) won't feel so bad about the flat tire when he finds out that he gave me my first feature win."
Defending Street Stock champion Dave Read moved to the Super Stock class. Last year's runner-up Mike Kuhlman is running in both the Street class and in the Midwest Modified class.
"We were a little underfunded and almost decided not to race this year," said Kuhlman.
"I had a few people talk me into it (racing the Street Stock car). Then about two weeks before practice we had an offer to run a 'B' mod (Midwest Modified). One of our sponsors would offer to let us run one of his motors and that's what we decided to do and we found a car."
In Pro Stock, Mike Smude had a great run going in the feature race, leading for the first 10 laps. Dan Ebert started in 10th from row five but moved quickly through the pack.
Two caution flags later, Ebert was on Smude's bumper and with five laps to go, Ebert took the lead for good on his way to victory.
Thirty eight cars raced in Saturday's Midwest Modified, the biggest of the five classes at NCS.
In the feature, Mike Jones and Kuhlman earned the row one starts. Jones gained the lead with Bud Martini and Kuhlman behind him.
After a caution with three laps remaining, Martini looked to make a move on Jones but fell back quickly with issues with his car and was not able to finish the race. It would set up the green-white-checker with Jones holding off Kuhlman for the victory.
2006 Super Stock track champion Tim Johnson got the row one start Saturday alongside Butch Butcher, who picked up a victory at Princeton Friday.
After a series of caution flags, Johnson earned the first-place podium finish.
Dano Ostrander secured the season's first "A" Modified victory.
Ostrander also won his heat race. Brian Strand and Brett Johnson won the other two heats.
Andy Miskowic's performance in his first "A" Modified feature, after racing Street Stock last year, was the big surprise. He finished third behind Ostrander and Jim Chyba.
