More than 700 central Minnesota scouts will be at the Westgate Mall Saturday, taking part in Scout Expo 1987. Cub Scouts and Explorers will staff 30 booths and exhibits demonstrating their programs, skills and handicraft abilities.

30 years ago (1977)

The Brainerd Lions Club will celebrate its 55th Anniversary Saturday at Madden's Pine Portage. The local club was chartered on Nov. 30, 1921, with 25 Lions and now has 65 members.

40 years ago (1967)

A plan to install a colorful water fountain in Gregory Park came under heavy fire at last night's city council meeting. The fountain would be 40 feet in diameter and would hold 40,000 gallons of water.

60 years ago (1947)

Approximately 300 parking meters are to be placed along the streets of the city's loop district by June the city council rules.
