A fire that started in a Bane Park concession stand late Wednesday appears to have been intentionally set.
Brainerd Fire Chief Kevin Mahle said sometime before 10:10 p.m. -- the time the fire was reported -- someone apparently broke into the concession stand, climbed to the second level, placed material of unknown origin against the wood wall and lit it on fire.
Mahle said the fire was quickly reported and firefighters were able to put it out before it could damage the concession stand.
"It's very much a salvageable building," said Mahle. "I don't know the dollar loss, but it's repairable damage."
The second level of the concession stand is like a press box, said Mahle, and houses loud speakers.
Bane Park is located on South Seventh Street in south Brainerd.
The Brainerd Police Department is investigating the break in and fire, but no arrests have been made. Sgt. Dave Holtz said a neighbor reported seeing juveniles leaving the park shortly before the fire broke out, but none of the juveniles were identified.
Anyone with information about the Bane Park fire is asked to call the Brainerd Police Department at 829-2805.
