BHS bands in concert Thursday

The Brainerd High School Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble and Symphonic Band will present a spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Tornstrom Auditorium, Washington Middle School, Brainerd.

Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for students. The featured soloist is All-State Band member Andrea Miller on tuba. The 37 seniors graduating from the band program also will be featured.

The Concert Band will open the program with "Avatara" by Mike Leckrone, "Synopsis" by Leland Forsblad and "Songs of Earth, Water Fire and Sky" by Robert W. Smith.

Andrea Miller will perform the solo "From the Shores of the Mighty Pacific" by Herbert L. Clark on tuba and piano. The Jazz Ensemble will follow with the Bob Soder arrangement of "Hot Enough" and "Birdland" by Josef Zawinul.

Closing the show will be the Symphonic Band, performing "Ceremonial Music," "Andante," "Symphonic Movement" by Vaclav Nelhybel, "Carmina Burana" by Karl Orff and "Rolling Thunder March" by Henry Fillmore.

A reception will follow the concert.
