Henriette C. 'Hattie' Downing

Henriette C. "Hattie" Downing, 79, Oak Lawn Township, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.

She was born Aug. 16, 1920, in Mahnomen County, to Dr. William and Hentji (Kruydyk) Kerssen. She was employed by Red Owl Stores for 30 years. She married Elmer Downing on Nov. 27, 1942.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Douglas Downing, Olthae, Colo.; a grandson, Michael Downing, California; two sisters, Aleida VanDyke, Richfield, Nelly Wibbels, Mahnomen; four brothers, Benny Kerssen and Willie Kerssen, both of McKintosh, Phillip Kerssen, Coon Rapids and Henry Kerssen, Washington.

Her son, Daniel, died earlier.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Anoka.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
