AITKIN -- Margaret E. Gravelle, 94, Aitkin, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin.
She was born April 3, 1906, in Aitkin, to John and Mary (Mestamaker) Janzen. She attended Aitkin High School, graduating in 1922. She attended St. Paul Business School. She returned to Aitkin and worked as a bookkeeper for the Framers Store, the Casey Co. and the Potter Co. She married Clifford J. Gravelle on May 12, 1936, at St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin. In 1937, they purchased the Swatara Store and operated it until 1942 when they sold it and moved to the Aitkin area. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, was a past member of St. Jude's Circle, past president of Maryhill PTA and worked for many years in the American Red Cross Bloodmobile.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Thomas Gravelle, Aitkin, Dennis Gravelle, Remer, Richard Gravelle, Blackduck, and Michael Gravelle, Pueblo, Colo.; two brothers, Henry and Bernard Janzen, both of Aitkin; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
A son, Jack, and five sisters and one brother died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Patrick J. Coyle officiating. Burial will be in the St. Thomas Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin. Parish prayers will be at 7:30 p.m. today with a rosary at 7:45 p.m.
